Biography
Robert C. Shea, Esquire, has been practicing law in Toms River since 1979. Bob was born in Hudson County, but moved to Toms River in 1968. He had begun high school at St. Peter’s Preparatory School in Jersey City. When his family moved to Toms River, he continued his education at Toms River High School North. He was part of the first graduating class from that facility. After high school, he attended Villanova University, graduating Cum Laude in 1975. He completed his education at the University of Dayton Law School, graduating from the JD/MBA Program and received his law degree in 1979.
Being active in the community has always been a priority for Bob. During the last 30 years, Bob has assisted numerous organizations by chairing and serving on various boards. He has worked intimately with the Toms River/Ocean County Chamber of Commerce and served as Chairman of that organization in 2003. He has also served on the Board of the Toms River Student Loan Fund as a trustee, and has devoted time and energy to the American Cancer Society, American Heart Association, United Way, Toms River Technology Foundation, Ocean County Vocational Foundation, Ocean County Tourism Counsel, Jersey Shore Council of Boy Scouts, and Jersey Shore Council of Girl Scouts. He currently serves as a member of the Toms River Downtown Business Improvement District and chairs the Economic Development Committee which is seeking to bring economic growth to the downtown Toms River area. He is a past recipient of the Ocean County Chamber of Commerce Citizen of the Year, 2004; Toms River Student Loan Fund Honoree, 2001; Good Scout Award, Jersey Shore Council Boy Scouts of America, 2009; Toms River/Ocean County Chamber of Commerce Pinnacle Award 2010. He also received a Special Achievement Award by the Columbia Civic League of Ocean County in 2004. He also serves on the advisory board of Shore Community Bank He is the host of Inside the Law and writes a weekly column for the Toms River Times; Manchester Times; Berkeley Times; and the Brick Township Times.
He also regularly appears as numerous news outlets including, but not limited to, CNN, and Fox News through Comcast.net.
He also continues to act as Master of Ceremonies for numerous organizations including the Toms River/Ocean County Chamber of Commerce; American Cancer Society; Toms River Student Loan Fund; Children’s Specialty Hospital; and numerous other charitable organizations.
Mr. Shea is a multi-disciplined attorney with 32 years of experience. He has extensive experience in the land use and development practice and has assisted some of the major corporations in America in securing their development approvals on a municipal, county and state level. He has appeared before over 100 planning board in the State of New Jersey. He has assisted clients with the New Jersey Department of Transportation applications and permits and has negotiated resolutions with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection.
Mr. Shea also has extensive trial and appellate experience in litigating complex commercial and land use matters.
He has also extensive trial experience in Personal Injury matters and Workers’ Compensation claims.
He has been successful in obtaining multi-million dollar settlements for clients who suffered serious personal injury as well as those who have been injured at work.
Mr. Shea frequently appears and tries cases in the New Jersey Superior Court and has argued numerous appeals in the Superior Court of New Jersey, Appellate Division and the New Jersey Supreme Court.
Mr. Shea specializes in the areas of Land Use and Planning and Development/Litigation; Personal Injury law; Workers’ Compensation law; and Elder law/Estate litigation.
