Misdiagnosis and medical errors still negatively impact patients

When seeking medical treatment for an illness, injury or condition in New Jersey, there is an expectation that the proper care will be provided. Unfortunately, medical errors are common. This can range from a misdiagnosis to a surgical error, medication mistakes and more. People can suffer a worsened condition, face different medical issues than what they initially sought treatment for or even lose their lives.

Difficult effects of a traumatic brain injury

A traumatic brain injury impacts many areas of your life. The more severe the injury, the more serious the effects. Some of these are temporary, but many will last a lifetime. They can make it difficult for individuals to live the life they want, and it can also make things hard for their loved ones.

"Big three" conditions cause serious harm when misdiagnosed

Researchers from Johns Hopkins analyzed over 11,000 medical malpractice cases in the effort to determine what conditions are most often linked with medical errors and what conditions lead most often to death or disability. New Jersey residents should know that diagnostic errors are the number one medical error; every year, they are behind 40,000 to 80,000 deaths in U.S. hospitals.

Red light running poses a serious risk

Red light cameras have been a popular solution introduced by municipalities in New Jersey and across the country to cut down on red light violations and improve traffic safety. They also often have the effect of increasing revenue from tickets because the cameras are mounted on light poles to capture images of cars that run through red lights as well as their license plates. Drivers who run red lights may receive tickets in the mail without the need for police stops for traffic offenses. Red light running is a serious safety concern, especially because 800 people are killed every year in car accidents linked to the practice while thousands more are injured.

How anti-drunk-driving IIDs can cause distraction

In the past decade, the number of ignition interlock devices installed on vehicles in New Jersey and across the U.S. has gone up from 133,000 to 350,000. Some 34 states require DUI offenders to install these in their vehicles, and as a result, these states see 15% fewer alcohol-related crash deaths than other states. The CDC says IIDs reduce repeat DUI offenses by 70%.
